Intercultural dialogue is an important dimension in many Community policies and instruments in the fields of the structural funds, education, lifelong learning, youth, culture, citizenship and sport, gender equality, employment and social affairs, combating discrimination and social exclusion, combating racism and xenophobia, policy on asylum and the integration of immigrants, human rights and sustainable development, audiovisual policy and research.
    3.     4. Council conclusions on Media Literacy [4] adopted by the Education, Youth and Culture Council of 21/22 May 2008 endorse the strategic view proposed by the European Commission of media literacy as an important factor for active citizenship in today's information society.
    5. The Commission shall ensure coherence and complementarity between the programme and instruments in other areas of Community action, especially education, vocational training, culture, youth, sport, the environment, the audiovisual sector and the media, fundamental rights and freedoms, social inclusion, gender equality, combating all forms of discrimination, racism and xenophobia, scientific research, information society and Community external action, in particular at the level of European Neighbourhood policy.
    6. In order to reflect the changes made by the Treaty of Lisbon to the previous Treaties, as regards space and sport, in the names of the Council’s configurations, the title of the ‘Competitiveness (internal market, industry and research)’ configuration should be amended by the addition of the word ‘space’, and the title of the ‘Education, youth and culture’ configuration should be amended by the addition of the word ‘sport’.
